A research conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison revealed that individuals who engaged in meditation exercises were observed to have a reduced grey matter concentration in areas of the brain associated with stress and anxiety. The preceding provides evidence to demonstrate the direct link between stress reduction and meditation. Furthermore, an additional study was carried out by a team of Harvard neuroscientists, who observed an increase in the grey matter of the sample’s brain, in the areas particularly involved with learning, memory, emotional regulation, positive self-esteem and formation of perspective. Fundamentally, the tests were run prior and after an eight-week course of mindfulness meditation was provided to the sample.
